Gospel: Matthew 15:21-28
21Jesus left that place and went away to the district of Tyre and Sidon. 22Just then a Canaanite woman from that region came out and started shouting, “Have mercy on me, Lord, Son of David; my daughter is tormented by a demon.” 23But he did not answer her at all. And his disciples came and urged him, saying, “Send her away, for she keeps shouting after us.” 24He answered, “I was sent only to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.” 25But she came and knelt before him, saying, “Lord, help me.” 26He answered, “It is not fair to take the children’s food and throw it to the dogs.” 27She said, “Yes, Lord, yet even the dogs eat the crumbs that fall from their masters’ table.” 28Then Jesus answered her, “Woman, great is your faith! Let it be done for you as you wish.” And her daughter was healed from that moment.
Reflection:
Our gospel for today is from Matthew 15:21-28 which is about the encounter of Jesus with the Canaanite woman. In this part of the Bible, there’s a story about a lady who asked Jesus for help. She worried about her daughter because she was sick and had a bad spirit inside her. The lady was from a different place so when she asked Jesus for help, He didn’t answer at first. He first tested the faith of that woman. Yet, the woman’s faith is that strong that Jesus healed her daughter.
What is the lesson from this passage from Matthew 15:21-28? Simple as it is, our faith is the one we must always strengthen up. When things are hard and it seems like nobody is listening, keep the faith and ask God for help. The woman’s determination is inspiring because she tried so hard and kept going. Then as Jesus knew that her faith is solid, He healed her daughter.
Another thing that we must always do is to be humble even though life is tough. This is what the gospel from Matthew 15:21-28 wants us to know. This reminds us to be patient and not give up if things don’t go the way we want them to.
Matthew 15:21-28 reminds us that Jesus cares about everyone, no matter where they come from. He listens to our prayers and knows what’s in our hearts. If we have strong faith and keep asking for help, good things can happen, even if it takes some time. We will ask God, the reply will not be in an instant, but He will for sure respond.
Faith and humility are the two virtues that we all must have and do. Sometimes, we have faith but we lack humility towards our brothers and sisters. We should always pray to God and ask for His mercy that we can withstand the tests of time. – Clea | Helpline PH
