Teachers’ bold plea to PBBM: Fix the ranking and promotion system so that no teacher will left-behind and retire as T-1

Teachers’ bold plea to PBBM: Fix the ranking and promotion system so that no teacher will left-behind and retire as T-1

Our teachers’ bold plea to PBBM is to fix the ranking and promotion system in the country. It has been recently that the new set of officials has been inaugurated. Teachers were positive that this time around, the new administration will hear them.

It is sad to note that in DepEd, many teachers retire from their post still as Teacher I regardless their age. Truth is that it is very difficult for teachers in the Philippines to get promotion. For a teacher to be able to get promotion, she needs to study and finish a Master’s Degree or even higher, a Ph.D.

Not all teachers have the guts and the resources to do that. Most of them have families to feed and their salary is not enough. Others wanted to spend more time for their families rather than to study on weekends. That is why our teachers’ bold plea to PBBM is to make changes in the ranking and promotion system.

Teachers are rooting for changes like: length of service and free schooling.

  • In other countries the length of service is the basis of promotion. The dedication that these teachers give the school is undeniable. Promotion through length of service is like a merit to these teachers.
  • Like the policemen who have free schooling, after finishing up promotion is waving. Teachers should also have free schooling and training. This method will enable teachers to be well-versed in their field. Promotion will follow right after these teachers finished it. They should not use their very own hard-earned money for this.

Teachers are present inside the school campus everyday. It is difficult for them to get more diplomas before they got promotions. In the public schools, teachers need to pile more certificates and achievements. This is the only way for them to promotion. Others even fight for it and it is too much chaos. Our teachers’ bold plea to PBBM is to fix the ranking and promotion in the country.

If only the new administration will favor teachers on this. Our teachers’ bold plea to PBBM is to make changes in the ranking and promotion system. By doing so, all teachers have the opportunity to rise.

To enter DepEd as Teacher I and to retire as Teacher I is heart-breaking. There isn’t a bit of hope for growth for those teachers before. Yet, as the new era is here then a new ray of hope is waving. – Alec | Helpline PH

  1. I salute a very realistic openion coz in my case 20 yrs in service na Po T-1 parin coz lack of units in Masters degree..my accomplishment in different compitatin division region&national is useless coz kulang Ang units ng MA,kasi may 6 akong anak na priority Kong pagppaaralin at may matandang magulang mga pamangkin n kailangan suportahan …Sana ma realized Po ito soon maraming salamat po

  2. Good morning po.

    1. Yes it’s really true…

And I have proofs!

In short,
ANG KABATAAN AY HINDI NA MAGIGING PAG-ASA SA BAYAN…
      KUNDI…

      “ANG KASIRAAN”

      (salamat sa pgbasa)

I am an example of this agony in this institution. I was hired in 2017 with DepEd as Teacher 1 in the Senior High School Department. In 2020, my ERF was approved as Teacher III by our Regional Director. But I was dismayed coz until now I am still T1 and every time I am asking our HR, the only reply that I received from them is that, “there are still no guidelines for the Senior High School. Can you please help me with this? I cant understand! I will be turning 60 on September this year.

  4. Sana ang mga naka10 years in service na.automatic promoted from.T1 to T2 parang sa pagbibigay ng Loyalty hindi pa para mag aral mga guro para mapromote…just sayin…at ciempre kasama performance nila sa paaralan

  5. Yes I’m in favor of the ranking and promotion system.teaching is life. Hopefully kindly focus on the seasoned teacher like me so more vacant position to be filled up by incoming new teacher applicant.

  6. Ferlibeth C. Paquibot

In my case, iba ang nangyari. I graduated with my Ph.D. on April 2, 2017 however, until this very moment I received no promotion. From 2014 up to now, 2022 I am still Teacher III. I applied to the vacant higher rank but I was outsmarted by the applicant who was just promoted and was still new in the service as compared to me. I applied for promotion not once but many times but all my applications are denied. By the way, I am already 25 years as a public school teacher. I wondered much about this system! As to work, being a teacher, I did my best naman. Our family economy is suffering from plenty of loans spent on my graduate studies. Hopefully, under the watch of our new Deped Secretary & VP Sara Duterte, justice will be served accordingly.

Sana mapansin ito Ng new DepEd secretary tnx po.god bless us all

  8. Maganda po pagmagkatotoo baka mkahabol pa po ako sa promotion na yan, about to retire na po ako Hindi po ako ngmasteral dahil mas priority ko po Ang pamilya ko as head of the family. Sana mapromote Ang nasa 18 yrs. In service Bago makaretire. God bless po.

  9. If educational attainment will not matter anymore in the promotion of T1, then performance must do, to conpensate the higher salary he/she will be receiving. If possible Very Satisfactory or Outstanding rating will be obtained by those who will be promoted.

  10. My plea is to scrap the palakasan/ kamag anak system ng Dep Ed. Laging umiiral ang “It’s not what you know, it’s whom you know.

  12. Absolutely true ..all teachers who served for almost decades they are deserving to be promoted when it comes to service..hindi po lahat ng teachers prioritize Yong pag aaral for degree units coz of more works to do and lack of money and time to do it.. ….staying and serving deped for how many years is a favor to be promoted ..sana po automatically promoted ang t 1 to t2 for legth service regardless of units…

  13. Siguro dito makahaon sa pagkakautang ang mga T1 serving for more than 10 years T1 pa rin kaysa increase ang pag uusapan. Promotion ang makakatulong.

  14. Good morning,
Its true, in my case ako ay 18 years in service with 4 years na may Outstanding rating sa RPMS, at the same time ay Coordinators sa ibat ibang school programs, grade level leader, subject area coordinator at iba pa. Pero still T1 pa rin ako dahil wala akong units sa masteral at laging sinasabi ng mga supervisors and principals na mag-aral. para lang mapromote…pero talagang di priority due to family obligations as head of the family. So sad na naunahan pa akong mapromote ng Non-performing teachers dahil may masteral sila. Sana Performance ang maging basis for promotion at hindi degree.
