Teachers’ bold plea to PBBM: Fix the ranking and promotion system so that no teacher will left-behind and retire as T-1
Our teachers’ bold plea to PBBM is to fix the ranking and promotion system in the country. It has been recently that the new set of officials has been inaugurated. Teachers were positive that this time around, the new administration will hear them.
It is sad to note that in DepEd, many teachers retire from their post still as Teacher I regardless their age. Truth is that it is very difficult for teachers in the Philippines to get promotion. For a teacher to be able to get promotion, she needs to study and finish a Master’s Degree or even higher, a Ph.D.
Not all teachers have the guts and the resources to do that. Most of them have families to feed and their salary is not enough. Others wanted to spend more time for their families rather than to study on weekends. That is why our teachers’ bold plea to PBBM is to make changes in the ranking and promotion system.
Teachers are rooting for changes like: length of service and free schooling.
- In other countries the length of service is the basis of promotion. The dedication that these teachers give the school is undeniable. Promotion through length of service is like a merit to these teachers.
- Like the policemen who have free schooling, after finishing up promotion is waving. Teachers should also have free schooling and training. This method will enable teachers to be well-versed in their field. Promotion will follow right after these teachers finished it. They should not use their very own hard-earned money for this.
Teachers are present inside the school campus everyday. It is difficult for them to get more diplomas before they got promotions. In the public schools, teachers need to pile more certificates and achievements. This is the only way for them to promotion. Others even fight for it and it is too much chaos. Our teachers’ bold plea to PBBM is to fix the ranking and promotion in the country.
If only the new administration will favor teachers on this. Our teachers’ bold plea to PBBM is to make changes in the ranking and promotion system. By doing so, all teachers have the opportunity to rise.
To enter DepEd as Teacher I and to retire as Teacher I is heart-breaking. There isn’t a bit of hope for growth for those teachers before. Yet, as the new era is here then a new ray of hope is waving. – Alec | Helpline PH
