On Monday, September 16, 2024, the Philippines will observe a Muslim legal holiday in celebration of Mauludin Nabi, which marks the birthday of Prophet Muhammad. This was announced by the National Commission on Muslim Filipinos (NCMF) through its Regional Office-9.

The declaration follows Presidential Decree No. 1083, also known as the Code of Muslim Personal Laws of the Philippines. According to the decree, Muslim holidays are officially recognized in specific regions and cities, including the provinces of Basilan, Lanao del Norte, Lanao del Sur, Maguindanao, and others.

On this day, Muslim employees in both public and private sectors are excused from work to observe the holiday, with no deduction in pay. The observance extends to Muslim-majority provinces and cities, and may also be declared in other regions as needed.

This legal holiday gives Muslim Filipinos an opportunity to honor the life and teachings of Prophet Muhammad and strengthen their faith.

MEMORANDUM

TO ALL CONCERNED

SUBJECT : OBSERVANCE OF MUSLIM LEGAL HOLIDAY (1446 HIJRAH MAULIDIN NABI)

DATE : SEPTEMBER 5, 2024

Pursuant to Presidential Decree No. 1083 otherwise known as Code of Muslim Personal Laws of the Philippines, MAULIDIN NABI is a recognized Muslim Legal Holiday. It falls on SEPTEMBER 16, 2024 (MONDAY) which corresponds to the 12th day of Rabbi’ul Awwal 1446H.

Under Art. 170. Provinces and cities where officially observed. (1) Muslim Holidays shall be officially observed in the provinces of Basilan, Lanao Del Norte, Lanao Del Sur, Maguindanao, North Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, Sulu, Tawi-Tawi, Zamboanga Del Norte and Zamboanga Del Sur, Zamboanga Sibugay and in the cities of Cotabato, Iligan, Marawi, Pagadian, and Zamboanga and in such other Muslim Provinces and Cities as may hereafter be created. (2) Upon proclamation by the President of the Philippines. Muslim Holidays may also be officially observed in other provinces and cities.

Under Art. 172. Observance by Muslim employees. (1) All Muslim government officials and employees in places other than enumerated under Article 170 shall also be excused from reporting to office in order that they may be able to observe Muslim holidays. (2) The President of the Philippines may, by proclamation, require private offices, agencies or establishment to excuse their Muslim employees from reporting for work during a Muslim holiday without reduction in their usual compensation.
