Today’s Gospel Reflection: Luke 21:5-19

Luke 21:5-19

Gospel: Luke 21:5-19

When some were speaking about the temple, how it was adorned with beautiful stones and gifts dedicated to God, he said, ‘As for these things that you see, the days will come when not one stone will be left upon another; all will be thrown down.’ They asked him, ‘Teacher, when will this be, and what will be the sign that this is about to take place?’ And he said, ‘Beware that you are not led astray; for many will come in my name and say, “I am he!” and, “The time is near!” Do not go after them. ‘When you hear of wars and insurrections, do not be terrified; for these things must take place first, but the end will not follow immediately.’ Then he said to them, ‘Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom; there will be great earthquakes, and in various places famines and plagues; and there will be dreadful portents and great signs from heaven. ‘But before all this occurs, they will arrest you and persecute you; they will hand you over to synagogues and prisons, and you will be brought before kings and governors because of my name. This will give you an opportunity to testify. So make up your minds not to prepare your defence in advance; for I will give you words and a wisdom that none of your opponents will be able to withstand or contradict. You will be betrayed even by parents and brothers, by relatives and friends; and they will put some of you to death. You will be hated by all because of my name. But not a hair of your head will perish. By your endurance you will gain your souls.

Luke 21:5-19

Reflection:

Our gospel for today is from Luke 21:5-19. ‘Beware that you are not led astray; for many will come in my name and say, “I am he!”. This is what Jesus told His disciples. Many will get confused with their message Jesus is telling his people. It needs deep understanding for on to be abler to interpret the message behind the gospel.

Luke 21:5-19 dis a clear reminder to us Christians to be mindful and prepared. Jesus talked about the “temple” in the gospel, and this meant so much for us to understand deep. The gospel is telling us to prepare ourselves for the real coming of God.

The “temple” in the gospel from Luke 21:5-19 is our body and soul which we must protect at all costs. Many people are claiming that they are God, and they will use the name of God in vain. Many impostors will claim that they are God, and they will tear your souls apart. If you understand the true meaning of faith in God, then you will never believe their claims.

Only God can save us and our souls from where we are at present. In Luke 21:5-19, it is clear that we are being warned. There may come a time when the people around us even our kins and blood relatives will betray us. There may come a time when our faith in God will get tested. We must endure all the hardships for this will help us find the true meaning of our faith.

Luke 21:5-19 is telling us to get ready for what is coming for us. Nowadays with our current information and age, confusion is inevitable. Many will speak in extreme exaggeration of the truth twisting it. Fake news is all over social media and it is popping over the minds of the new generation.

It is our duty to protect our young generations and explain to them the true meaning of faith. We must be the strength they need in case their minds get corrupted. Luke 21:5-19 is telling us to prepare and make way for the only truth and His coming. – Clea | Helpline PH
