It is a challenge for the Department of Education to stop the long-time problem of teachers with the Government Service Insurance System
When will DepEd solve the problem of teachers with GSIS? Many months have passed already since VP Sarah promised to make a solution to this problem. Teachers are very eager to transfer to another insurance company that can help them. It is their longtime cry to be free from the pile of interest and arrears that GSIS reflected on their accounts. Even if they wanted it so much, it is very impossible when they can do nothing about it.
The problem of teachers with GSIS has been lurking around the corner for a very long time. None of the earliest heads of DepEd were able to give justice and look upon it’s root cause. For how many years, teachers can only complain with each other. Their problem remains unsolved.
At present, there is hope in the eyes of the teachers because of VP Sarah. She once promised these same teachers to do something about this. The problem of teachers with GSIS may have a solution during her reign as the DepEd secretary. Of course, it wouldn’t happen overnight. We have to give her and her team ample time to see some results.
If only DepEd will opt to adapt or change to other insurance companies, then this would not happen. Instead of helping the teachers, it gives the opposite vibe. Many of the teachers at present have difficulties in reconciling their account. The first reason is that not all teachers lived in the city. They need to be absent in order to do transactions in any GSIS branch. It is very difficult for them to be absent for how many days for it. Remember that GSIS transactions take ample time than you expect. Sometimes, even a day isn’t enough.
The problem of teachers with GSIS will always linger if not given proper solution right away. Teachers can only hope that the new set of officials in DepEd will make it their prerogative to solve this.
