Public School Teachers PERA: From P2,000 To P8,000
Ang Probinsyano Partylist Rep. Alfred delos Santos has filed a bill that seeks to increase the personal economic relief allowance (PERA) of public school teachers.
The House Bill 6239 will increase teachers’ PERA from P2,000 to P8,000.
“The State, through this increase, will be able to demonstrate its full commitment in enhancing and uplifting the living and working conditions of its employees, particularly in the field of education,” delos Santos said in his explanatory note.
Delos Santos that the government has to make sure that education gets the highest priority when it comes to budgetary requirements.
He added that giving teachers ample compensation will help attract and keep top-tier teaching professionals.
Delos Santos said funding for the increased allowance will come from the General Appropriations Act.
House Bill 6239 mandates the Department of Education and the Commission on Higher Education, in coordination with the Department of Budget and Management, to promulgate rules and regulations for the desired increase.
