Grand Mid-year Bonus for Teachers in 2022: Signs of Teachers Reducing Debts?
The mid-year bonus will be received by teachers no earlier than May 15. Many teachers will go shopping, rebonding and coloring their hair, pay their children’s tuition, buy kitchen wares, have a family picnic at the beach resort, visit relatives in other provinces, and pay their debts to private lenders. Some teachers sell their next year’s bonuses once the 2022 bonus is released.
The Mid-Year Bonus or 14th-month pay is equivalent to one (1) month of basic pay as of May 15 and shall be given to entitled personnel not earlier than May 21 of the current year, subject to the following conditions. Personnel has rendered at least a total of an aggregate of four (4) months of service from July of the immediately preceding year to May 15 of the current year;
Personnel remains in the government service as of May 15 of the current year. Personnel has obtained at least a satisfactory performance rating in the immediately preceding rating period or the applicable performance appraisal period. If there is a need for a shorter period, it shall be at least ninety (90) calendar days or three (3) months, provided that the total or aggregate service under item 5.1.1 hereof is complied with.
Those rendered a total or an aggregate of less than four (4) months of service from July 1 of the preceding year to May 15 of the current year, and those who are no longer in the service as of the latter date shall not be entitled to the Mid-Year Bonus. The Mid-Year Bonus of personnel hired on part-time service in one or more agencies shall directly proportion to the number of hours/days of part-time services rendered.
The Mid-Year Bonus of those on detail to another government agency shall be paid by the parent agency, while the recipient agency shall pay those on secondment. The new agency shall pay the Mid-Year Bonus of personnel who transferred from one agency to another. A compulsory retiree whose services have been extended may be granted a mid- Year Bonus, subject to the pertinent provisions of this Circular.
Those who are formally charged with administrative and/or criminal cases which are still pending for resolution shall be entitled to Mid-Year Bonus until found guilty by final and executory judgment: Provided that: Those found guilty shall not be entitled to Mid-Year Bonus in the year of the finality of the decision. The personnel shall refund the Mid-Year Bonus received for that year. If this penalty is only a reprimand, the personnel concerned shall be entitled to the Mid-Year Bonus.
This is the latest update for the Mid-Year Bonus in 2022. Last January, the increase in teachers’ salaries is already reflected in their wages, which means the mid-year bonus is equivalent to the 2022 basic salary. Some teachers are excited about receiving it to reduce their loans. This is how the government should help teachers. Teachers are always waiting for another new benefit that the government will give their teachers.
Benefits are the teachers’ motivation for their job as a reward for their hard work.
