Top 10 advise for public school teachers to enjoy retirement

It is true that a teacher’s work is a lifetime. Teaching is a responsibility that requires full attention and also requires a lot of time that even in your own home you are still bringing with you a lot of paper works. Unlike any other field of work, a teacher doesn’t stop working even after the day’s shift since there are things that are usually done at home (like checking of papers, LIS enrollment, etc.)

Even though teaching is tedious, yet it is also the most fulfilling job. It is then at the hands of the teacher on how she/he manages to overcome the entire job regardless of the deadliest deadlines ahead. Individual teachers are unique in their own way of dealing with their own struggles both in school and at home. This is why it is also a must that teachers need to take good care of their own self especially their health in order to achieve more success and mold more young minds.

I have observed that many teachers upon retirement have started to feel the heavy load they keep alongside the years they offered their services in the form of various sicknesses. Most of them even before having the retirement already got sick and some others didn’t even get the chance to retire.

This article will talk about the Top  10  Advice  to Public School Teachers so that they will enjoy the life of a retiree soon:

1. PRAY WHEN YOU ARE HAPPY, PRAY WHEN YOU ARE SAD

This is the first and foremost deed teachers should do. I have been a teacher for 5 years now and even before I was one, I have always had God as the center of everything around me. It has been my experience that during crucial times, as long as I pray, it will be answered in a way you wouldn’t expect. I know teachers all over the world did this too. Prayer is the only weapon that will give teachers the courage to pursue everything.

2. SLEEP EARLY

I have known a lot of teachers always complaining about headaches, backaches, and many other sicknesses that will hinder them from functioning well. I myself have also experience having insomnia and panic attacks and many other sicknesses alongside teaching and eventually, I have learned to cope up with that problem. The only thing that will surely help us is the hours of SLEEP we have. Sleep is really a very powerful action that will really make you feel alive during the day. Most teachers don’t have enough sleep because of some papers and functions supposed to be done at school but brought home, well, I tell you, teachers, you need to set aside those and get a good night 8 hours of sleep and even more than that! If you fail to do so, then expect the consequences of your actions. Rest, sleep and after that, you can be fully charged again and continue your work. Work can wait, but our life is only lived once so sleep, my darling teachers!

3. EAT HEALTHY, LITERALLY HEALTHY FOOD

Alongside work is a healthy diet. It means eating the right balance of food that our body needs. Avoid drinking too many carbonated drinks and eating junk food (my co-teachers are still young so they tend to eat a lot of junk food during the vacant time). He hydrated to keep your vital organs working. After all, our body needs good food to function very well during the day.

4. WORK ONLY AT SCHOOL, NOT AT HOME

A lot of teachers do bring home most of their stuff, as for me, I leave it in my classroom. I believe that schoolwork should be done in the workplace and not at home since it can stop us from relaxing our mind and body. Do not overdo it, just work moderately. Our salaries cannot compensate us if we get sick.

5. AVOID STRESS, BE COOL AND KEEP CALM

To avoid stress, be positive always, and don’t let problems turn you down. Stress is just a word and you are the master of yourself so avoid stress. Avoid all the things that you feel will greatly give you stress. If someone is annoying and you think you will be stressed just by seeing that someone, then avoid that someone so you won’t be stressed. Simple as that. Don’t let stress rule you, instead you kick away stress.

6. DON’T WORRY ABOUT MONEY, IT CAN BE FOUND

If money is your problem, all you need to think about is that money can be found. It is not yet the end of everything. If you are someone who has a good heart then surely, by all means, if you need an amount then those who know you will lend a hand to help.

7. DON’T BE A “THORN AMONG THE ROSES”, JOIN WITH FLOW

In a group where there are many heads, it is very common to have fellow workers who are trying to match against one another. As for you who is reading this, if you don’t want to be the “ugly duckling” avoid doing things that may trigger jealousy and chaos. Be with everyone to avoid any conflicts. I am telling you, in every public school, there are really those who are very difficult to be with.

8. KEEP GOOD COMRADES AND ACQUAINTANCES

Choose your circle of friends. Make sure they are the ones who will lift you up when you are down and will console you every time you needed them. Avoid plastic co-teachers because they will only lead you to your downfall. Instead, choose your comrades who are with you all the time whatever the circumstances may be.

9. MANAGE YOUR FINANCES AND CREDITS WISELY

In order for you to have peace of mind, try to be very wise in managing your finances. You have to put a scale or limit as to the amount you need in order for you to still have enough during paydays. One of the reasons why teachers are stressed is because of loans. If we can avoid that, then we have to do it.

10. ENJOY SOMETIMES, RELAX AND HAVE A GOOD FAMILY BONDING!

Lastly, spend more time with your family. A small weekly gathering will be enough to sway all the negativities of life. Remember, no man is an island so be with the closest relative that will lift your spirit high! Let’s enjoy every moment. Our work is intended to make a living for us to enjoy, not stress us out.

By doing these things, you should be worry-free and you can enjoy both your work and your spare time. You don’t need to become a robot for your work, it’s about working to live, not living to work. Perhaps, these will add more positivity and during our retirement, we can absolutely enjoy it even though we are already old. – Clea | Helpline PH
