Today’s Gospel Reflection: Matthew 24:37-44

Matthew 24:37-44

Gospel: Matthew 24:37-44

For as the days of Noah were, so will be the coming of the Son of Man. For as in those days before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day Noah entered the ark, and they knew nothing until the flood came and swept them all away, so too will be the coming of the Son of Man. Then two will be in the field; one will be taken and one will be left. Two women will be grinding meal together; one will be taken and one will be left. Keep awake therefore, for you do not know on what day your Lord is coming. But understand this: if the owner of the house had known in what part of the night the thief was coming, he would have stayed awake and would not have let his house be broken into. Therefore you also must be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an unexpected hour.

Matthew 24:37-44

Reflection:

The gospel from today is from Matthew 24:37-44 which tells us to “be ready for the coming of the Son of Man“. We all are now preparing for Advent as Christmas season is in the air. People are now starting to buy holiday decors and the malls are starting to get crowded once again. It has been almost two (2) years since the pandemic hits the world and we all closed our doors because of it.

Now, we are once again trying to feel the essence of Christmas holidays even with all the turmoil we had. People are trying to get happy, to once again feel the season. Yet, little did people know that the true preparations to do is within the inner soul. This is the message int he gospel from Matthew 24:37-44.

Matthew 24:37-44 is clear in the message: to get prepared for we don’t know what is there to come before us. As we prepare for the birth of Jesus, we should also see to it that our whole self if prepared anywhere anytime. We must prepare our souls for we do not know if the Son of Man will come to judge us.

In Matthew 24:37-44, we must be like the owner of the house, ready anytime incase a thief will come at the house. It is like when God will come for us for our final judgement. He will come like a thief in the night, unnoticed and fast. If we are not prepared and we choose to sleep, then we won’t witness Him coming for us.

The gospel form Matthew 24:37-44 is a reminder that we all must prepare our whole self. We must get ready anytime. We must set our alarms as active as ever. We must see to it that while we wait for the birth of Jesus, we also prepared our souls and make it clean from within. The spirit of the holiday season may give us more motivations to be like our Father, meek and humble in all ways. – Clea | Helpline PH
