Today’s Gospel Reflection: Mark 13:33-37

Gospel: Mark 13:33-37

33 ‘Be on your guard, stay awake, because you never know when the time will come.

34 It is like a man travelling abroad: he has gone from his home, and left his servants in charge, each with his own work to do; and he has told the doorkeeper to stay awake.

35 So stay awake, because you do not know when the master of the house is coming, evening, midnight, cockcrow or dawn;

36 if he comes unexpectedly, he must not find you asleep.

37 And what I am saying to you I say to all: Stay awake!’

Reflection:

The Gospel for today is very short yet very awakening. Each day brings us new dimensions in life and new experiences. The gospel taught us to be watchful for the next coming of our Lord and savior.

Nobody knows when and where the exact time and date of the coming. The Lord is like a thief at night. He will come to us unexpectedly to judge us one by one base on our deeds here on earth.

It is therefore always a reminder for us to be well prepared for the coming of the Lord. In order to do this, we have to always invest ourselves in doing righteous deeds while we are still living here in this temporary abode that we have.

Prayer is the best weapon we have to always do but prayer without action will never prosper.  With prayers comes doing charity, holiness, aiding the sick and those who needed our help, the homeless, the poor, and the children. These things are the passes which will bring us near to the father.

We need to cultivate more of our soul than our physical appearance. Our body will change into ashes after we died and only our soul will traverse to the next life.

God is the ultimate visitor we are waiting for. This month is the preparation for our savior’s birth, and so despite this pandemic, we are facing, may we get the courage to help our fellowmen through gifts of joy and love and almsgiving. – Clea | Helpline PH
