Gospel: Mark 4:35-41

35 With the coming of evening that same day, he said to them, ‘Let us cross over to the other side.’

36 And leaving the crowd behind they took him, just as he was, in the boat; and there were other boats with him.

37 Then it began to blow a great gale and the waves were breaking into the boat so that it was almost swamped.

38 But he was in the stern, his head on the cushion, asleep.

39 They woke him and said to him, ‘Master, do you not care? We are lost!’ And he woke up and rebuked the wind and said to the sea, ‘Quiet now! Be calm!’ And the wind dropped, and there followed a great calm.

40 Then he said to them, ‘Why are you so frightened? Have you still no faith?’

41 They were overcome with awe and said to one another, ‘Who can this be? Even the wind and the sea obey him.’

Reflection:

Our gospel for today is from Mark 4:35-41. This gospel reminds us a lot of opportunities to prove our faith to God. The challenges that the disciples have gone through have test their faith in Him. The pitching and tossing of the raging sea moves their fear for shipwreck. Jesus is then asleep but when He woke up, He commands the sea and immediately the storm stop. Now, this is the test of faith for the disciples. Human as they are, they didn’t give their full trust to Jesus who was with them. It is sad that they were also asleep, asleep to the truth of who Jesus is even though He is with them.

We are like the disciples in Mark 4:35-4 . We are weak and we always doubt. We never put our faith in Him. As we all know, Jesus is like the wind, always there yet we can’t touch. He is looking out for us, looking out for our needs yet we still doubt His presence. The storms in the gospel of Mark 4:35-41 resonates the storms we are facing and will have to face in our lives. The gospel is telling us to learn to trust and have faith in Jesus. He even died on the cross to save us all. There is no space for doubts in our lives.

As of today’s storm, the pandemic is the toughest one we have. This pandemic never leaves us and we are all feeling the hardships this brought us. Even with this, we will never forget to trust and have faith in Him. He will provide us despite the storms of life and chaos. The storms of doubt and anxiety will never again hit us because we have great faith to the Lord. Let us offer each other more than anything else and be the help we need for this time of hardships. – Clea | Helpline PH
