Today’s Gospel Reflection: Mark 1:29-39

Gospel: Mark 1:29-39

29 And at once on leaving the synagogue, he went with James and John straight to the house of Simon and Andrew.

30 Now Simon’s mother-in-law was in bed and feverish, and at once they told him about her.

31 He went in to her, took her by the hand and helped her up. And the fever left her and she began to serve them.

32 That evening, after sunset, they brought to him all who were sick and those who were possessed by devils.

33 The whole town came crowding round the door,

34 and he cured many who were sick with diseases of one kind or another; he also drove out many devils, but he would not allow them to speak, because they knew who he was.

35 In the morning, long before dawn, he got up and left the house and went off to a lonely place and prayed there.

36 Simon and his companions set out in search of him,

37 and when they found him they said, ‘Everybody is looking for you.’

38 He answered, ‘Let us go elsewhere, to the neighboring country towns, so that I can proclaim the message there too, because that is why I came.’

39 And he went all through Galilee, preaching in their synagogues and driving out devils.

Reflection:

There are four parts in today’s Gospel that I would like to elaborate more. First is when Jesus took the hand of Simon’s mother in law and cured her from her sickness at once. This reveals that Jesus will never abandon those who trust and believe in Him. Since Simon is His disciple, He then cured Simon’s mother in law.
This is a representation to us that in everything we do, we will never forget to give glory to God for His blessings and graces. If we are in trouble, call for help from up above. If we are elated and happy, we must thank and praise God above. There should never be a day that we forget God because His presence in our lives is very obvious.

Second, Jesus cured the sick and cast away the evil ones. This will tell us that every day, there are temptations and devils are lurking around us. Let us not be weak to follow the temptation of the devil. Instead, we will pray that God will cure us from our sins and cast away our evil deeds. Keeping away from sin is the most important thing that matters as sons and daughters of Jesus.

Third, Simon and his companions search for Jesus when He left. Everybody looks for Jesus. This reveals that people like us needs Him everyday all the time. It means that a human soul needs Jesus in their lives to be righteous. This means we need God in our lives to be reminded that we are His creations and we should do good deeds here on earth for our fellowmen. This is not only a ticket for us to be in heaven but as well as this is the representation of who we are as a person.

All earthly things will fade away but the Kingdom of God will be forever. Now, it is upon us already if we decide to do good or the opposite. – Clea | Helpline PH
