The Philippines’ Department of Education (DepEd) is set to boost the salaries of public school teachers and non-teaching staff. This follows President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s Executive Order 64, which supports salary adjustments for the fiscal year 2024.
Education Secretary Sonny Angara stated that the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) has approved a significant sum of Php 26.9 billion for this purpose. “The President and the DBM are on board with this plan. They’ve even told us to use available funds to start paying out these raises as soon as possible,” Angara said during a budget discussion in the House.
Annalyn Sevilla, Undersecretary for Finance, announced that the eligible staff would receive their increased pay for January to August 2024 starting this September. “These payments will be included in the September payroll,” she confirmed.
As of now, several regions like Ilocos, Central Luzon, and MIMAROPA have received official notices for salary adjustments and are in the process of paying their staff. Other areas, including the Cordillera Administrative Region and parts of Visayas and Mindanao, are also starting to issue these payments.
This salary increase is a significant step towards supporting the staff who contribute daily to the education of the nation’s youth.
