Keep the school calendar from August to May, protect kids from rainy season sickness – Solon

Cagayan de Oro Representative Rufus Rodriguez supports keeping the current school calendar from August to May. He disagrees with changing it back to June to March. Rodriguez thinks this change would be bad because the rainy season happens mostly from June to March. He wants to protect kids from getting sick with things like colds, fever, and flu during the rainy season.

Rodriguez points out that there are fewer rainy days in the August to May calendar compared to the old one. This means less risk for students and less chance of canceling classes. He also notes that the current calendar matches the schedule of many other countries, which helps with working together with foreign schools.

He believes that changing back to the old calendar would be hard for parents, teachers, and students who have already gotten used to the current one. Instead of changing the calendar, Rodriguez suggests that the Department of Education should improve education in science, math, IT, history, culture, English, and moral values. He feels the Philippines is falling behind in these areas. The Department of Education is thinking about whether to go back to the June-March calendar.
