Reasons Why Teachers Burst into Anger During Classroom Discussion

Being angry is a part of being human.  This is an emotion that a person can at least feel every now and then depending on the situation. Every individual person is free to get angry at times because in this case, the emotions that are gathered will then be released in one shot. It is said that human should express their emotions to avoid lingering sickness that comes when you hide your true feelings.

On the topic of anger, I think that the profession that is always prone to anger is being a teacher. Teachers are the reflection of all the emotions a human person can have including anger. Even though it is much appreciated that teachers as the role model always display a happy composure in front of their students, there are also times and when they need to show their negative side.  I am listing down the top reasons why teachers burst into anger during classroom discussions.

Most likely, teachers will erupt into anger if…

THE STUDENTS ARE NOT LISTENING TO THE DISCUSSION OF THE TEACHER
There are really times when students are already bored or sometimes they are just not interested in your subject (mostly the high school students do this) that they resort to not listen during discussions. I have always encountered students like this especially if the topic is unrelatable or somewhat boring. As a teacher, it will really make your blood boil. Imagine if you are a teacher handling 50-60 students in one class (yes, I have always experienced this because I am a TLE teacher) and you have to tame all of them so that they will lend their ears to you during the discussion. You really have to do all means of motivation just to catch their attention and in return, there are a few who will NOT listen. For me it is as if you are just a puppet in front, so why bother talking. As for me, I walk my talk folks!

THE STUDENTS ARE DOING SOMETHING DIFFERENT NOT RELATED TO THE TEACHER’S DISCUSSION
I have also experienced during one of my lectures when a couple of students were doing different projects. In an instant, just by looking at them, my jaw dropped and I started to burst into unending anger. Everybody went silent when I started my sermon. According to them, they were completing an assignment from another subject. What? I am a kind of teacher who doesn’t want to use the time of others for my cause so in return I also don’t want my time to be used because it is intended for my subject. Even if it was you, you will surely grow horns folks!

THE STUDENTS ARE TALKING TO ONE ANOTHER
It is a must during my discussions to always maintain silence while the teacher is talking because once my ears caught even just a single sound, then the culprit will really answer. I think most teachers don’t want to have their discussions in a noisy environment. If the students are talking to one another, it simply means they are not interested to listen to your discussion no matter what. As for me, the disciplinary action must be implemented since talking to one another during a teacher’s discussion is an insult to the part of the teacher who is trying very hard.

THE STUDENTS ARE BUSY WITH THEIR CELLPHONES
I have already tried confiscating cellphones before my discussion, but whether we like it or not, it is not all the time that we will have ample time to confiscate cellphones because obviously, it will consume much of the time intended for the discussion. My students already knew that the use of cellphones during lecture time is prohibited, and aside from emergencies, if a student is caught texting/chatting or streaming videos, surely that student will go to the guidance office. Most teachers will be very disappointed when a student merely does this for fun to avoid listening to the discussion.

UPON ORAL QUESTIONING, STUDENTS CAN’T ANSWER THE QUESTION EVEN THOUGH IT WAS REPEATED MANY TIMES
There were times when a teacher is really doing her best repeating every single detail of her discussion just to make sure that everybody understood the topic, and sometimes during oral questioning, there a really students who still can’t answer very well even though the topic is repeated. It will surely make you sick.

STUDENTS GETS IN LATE
Late students are always present. Once is forgivable, but twice and thrice are questionable. If a teacher is in the middle of her discussion then suddenly late students get inside without even excusing themselves and explain the reason for doing so.  This is one reason why teachers will resort to anger sometimes. It is said that in a group, there is at least one who is different, so it.

If you are a teacher reading this article right now, you surely can relate with all of the mentioned reasons above. Teachers are human too and even though they are patient enough to handle difficult students, still there are times when they need to reprimand students who basically make troubles inside the classroom. In a classroom with 40-50 students, you can’t expect a very peaceful classroom at all. It is never easy to become a teacher with all students with different behaviors. The job requires us a lot of patience. – Clea | Helpline PH
