Free accident insurance up to PHP 100,000 for Public School Teachers
Teachers and employees at the Philippines’ Department of Education (DepEd) now have accident insurance up to PHP 100,000. This announcement was made by Vice President and Education Secretary Sara Duterte during the World Teachers’ Day celebration. The insurance is procured through the Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) and became active on October 5. It covers accidental death or dismemberment and offers up to PHP 30,000 for medical expenses due to accidents, anywhere in the world, whether related to work or not.
DepEd is also collaborating with GSIS to create a supplemental health insurance for teachers’ medical needs. During the celebration, Duterte emphasized the commitment to support teachers through better resources, working conditions, and professional development.
Furthermore, DepEd and GSIS are working together to enhance services for teachers, including a dedicated GSIS office lane for them. DepEd is also developing a website for free legal aid and loan advice to protect teachers from financial frauds. Additionally, an automated system is being developed for fair and transparent hiring and promotion of teachers.
