Today’s gospel from Mark 14:12-16, 22-26 is all about “Corpus Christi” which means the Body of Christ. This is a reminder that when we take Holy Communion, we received the Body and Blood of Christ in it. This reminds me of the greatest gift Jesus Christ gave us. It is the gift of the Holy Eucharist. We try to contemplate to ourselves, do we value this gift? Do we ever know the value of its greatness in our present world?
Gospel: Mark 14:12-16, 22-26
12 On the first day of the Feast of Unleavened Bread, when they sacrificed the Passover lamb, Jesus’ disciples said to him, “Where do you want us to go and prepare for you to eat the Passover?”
13 He sent two of his disciples and said to them, “Go into the city and a man will meet you, carrying a jar of water. Follow him.
14 Wherever he enters, say to the master of the house, ‘The Teacher says, “Where is my guest room where I may eat the Passover with my disciples?”‘
15 Then he will show you a large upper room furnished and ready. Make the preparations for us there.”
16 The disciples then went off, entered the city, and found it just as he had told them; and they prepared the Passover.
22 While they were eating, he took bread, said the blessing, broke it, gave it to them, and said, “Take it; this is my body.”
23 Then he took a cup, gave thanks, and gave it to them, and they all drank from it.
24 He said to them, “This is my blood of the covenant, which will be shed for many.
25 Amen, I say to you, I shall not drink again the fruit of the vine until the day when I drink it new in the kingdom of God.”
26 Then, after singing a hymn, they went out to the Mount of Olives.
Reflection:
Reading the gospel in Mark 14:12-16, 22-26, the first Eucharist involved a lot of preparations. A proper place should be ready with proper furnishings. This means that to receive the Eucharist, it has to be in a well-prepared place. The question is: Where should we find a place to receive the Holy Eucharist? The answer is simple; our soul is the temple, the place where we can receive the Holy Eucharist with purity. We don’t need a literal place to receive the Eucharist. As long as our body is ready, our soul is clean, and our hearts are pure, then we are ready for Jesus. We need to purify our body and soul for the great blessing that is waiting for us. To fulfill the gospel in Mark 14:12-16, 22-26, we all need to do something to receive Jesus with graces.
Let us always make sure to receive the Holy Eucharist every Sunday through communion. Before receiving the gist, all Catholics must listen to the homily and reflect on it. In these trying times, we need to ask Jesus for all the gifts for mankind to survive. We need to let Jesus dwell in our hearts and listen to our plea. We must prepare our body as it is the temple of the Holy Spirit. We must purify our souls through penance and mortification.
