DepEd Approves Additional Allowance for Teachers

Teacher Allowance Increase

The Department of Education (DepEd) has announced an increase in allowances for teachers across the country. Education Secretary Sonny Angara has signed the implementing rules and regulations (IRR) that will grant a P10,000 allowance to public school teachers.

Allowance for Various Educational Personnel

This new provision benefits not only teachers but also extends to other educational staff. It includes guidance counselors, school librarians, and vocational instructors. Additionally, the allowance covers individuals who perform supervisory and administrative functions in public schools, the Alternative Learning System (ALS), and Mobile Teachers.

District ALS Coordinators working in public elementary, junior, and senior high schools, as well as community learning centers, are also eligible for this allowance. This comprehensive inclusion ensures that a wide range of educational professionals receive the support they need to continue providing quality education.

Legislative Support and Praise

The signing of the IRR is part of Republic Act No. 11997, known as the Kabalikat sa Pagtuturo Act. Several senators have praised this move, highlighting its importance in supporting educators who play a crucial role in shaping the future of students. The additional allowance aims to alleviate the financial burdens faced by educators, recognizing their dedication and contribution to the nation’s education system.

Impact on the Education Sector

This new allowance is expected to positively impact the education sector by providing much-needed financial assistance to educators and staff. It acknowledges the vital role they play in nurturing and developing the minds of future generations. With this support, educators can focus more on their teaching responsibilities, ultimately benefiting the students they serve.

The DepEd’s approval of the additional allowance marks a significant step forward in improving the working conditions of educators and supporting the overall growth and development of the country’s education system.
