PBBM Suspends Classes and Gov’t Operations in NCR and Bulacan on Aug. 25
On Monday, August 25, President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. announced the suspension of government operations and public school classes in both the National Capital Region (NCR) and Bulacan. This decision comes ahead of the much-anticipated opening ceremonies of the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023.
As per a memorandum circular issued on July 21, Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin highlighted the President’s commitment to ensuring a “safe, orderly, and successful” launch for this global basketball event. The grand opening is set to take place at the renowned Philippine Arena in Bocaue, Bulacan.
It’s essential to note that while many government functions will be on hold, agencies crucial to health services, disaster preparedness and response, and other vital operations will continue their services without interruption.
This memorandum is a testament to the government’s dedication to fully support the Philippine Sports Commission. The commission is at the forefront, leading comprehensive planning and preparations for the country’s hosting of the FIBA World Cup.
Meanwhile, private companies and private educational institutions have the autonomy to decide on work and class suspensions, respectively.
A historical note: The last time the FIBA World Cup graced the Philippines was 45 years ago, making this event even more special for the nation.
