Parents plan not to enroll their kids for safety this school year

As announced by DepEd Secretary Briones on Tuesday (May 5), opening of classes is scheduled on August 24 this year. But they have clarified that it does not mean physical return to school due to the risk of Covid-19.

“Ang napili po nating school opening date ay August 24 pero hindi ibig sabihin lahat pisikal na papasok kasi may lockdown tayo. Pwede tayong virtual; physical sa pwede,” Sec. Briones statement in Laging Handa Briefing.

This announcement receives several reactions especially from parents. Some parent thinks that opening of classes that early could bring risk to their children’s lives. For them it is too premature to consider returning of classes as we are still battling with the coronavirus and there is no any vaccine yet.

“My kid is important to me more than education, school can wait,” a parent’s comment.

“Bakit niyo minamadali ang school opening. Are you sure Madam Secretary na safe ang mga bata at teacher sa time na ‘yan? Hindi po lahat ay may stable internet at computer o gadget sa bahay, please reconsider the situation baka sa pagmamadali mas maraming mapahamak,” another comment.
