Over 20 Students in Davao del Norte Suffer from Heat Exhaustion: A Wake-Up Call for Schools and Authorities

In a concerning incident, more than 20 students from Dujali National High School in Braulio E. Dujali, Davao del Norte, experienced heat exhaustion and panic attacks due to extreme temperatures. The victims were primarily in Grades 7 and 8.

Heat Index Reaches Dangerous Levels

According to the records from the Davao City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO), the heat index in the area reached a staggering 40 degrees Celsius on September 8th, around 2 PM. Such high temperatures are considered to be at an “extreme caution” level, posing significant health risks.

Immediate Response from Local Government

In response to this alarming situation, the local government and various government agencies promptly conducted an emergency meeting to address the issue. Inspections were also carried out in schools, especially since students reported still feeling extreme heat inside their classrooms as of Monday.

Public Advisory Issued

The public, particularly students, are advised to increase their water intake to alleviate the effects of the heat. The Municipal Health Office of Braulio E. Dujali has transported the affected students to the Regional Health Unit for immediate medical attention.
