Gatchalian urges DepEd to focus on teacher training

Senator Sherwin Gatchalian urged the incoming Marcos administration to focus on ensuring quality education and enough training for teachers to address the education crisis in the country.

Gatchalian called on the Department of Education (DepEd) to focus on the “immediate and effective” implementation of the newly signed Republic Act No. 11713, or the Excellence in Teacher Education Act.

“If teachers have a good foundation, we can be assured of the delivery of good quality teaching for our learners,” he said.

Gatchalian is optimistic that Vice President-elect Sara Duterte has the political capital to install reforms in the education sector.

The way I see the training during the pandemic is enough. The government must find ways to elevate their salaries to avoid thinking twice if they will go overseas or not. Another is to lessen their papers works and let them focus on teaching which is their primary purpose and why they are called teachers
