Increase Entry Level Salary of Teachers
– Rep. France Castro calls for raising entry level rate of public school teachers to Salary Grade 12, although the ideal target is Salary Grade 15 to better cope with inflation.
– The proposed increase aims to provide temporary relief for teachers while the push for Salary Grade 15 continues.
– Castro supports retaining the head teacher position under House Bill 1580, which proposes the creation of higher level teaching positions.
– She urges head teachers to advocate for Salary Grade 12 as the entry level and to retain their positions in the substitute bill for HB 1580.
– In the current system, elementary head teachers serve as teacher-in-charge, while secondary head teachers assist principals in administrative tasks.
ACT Teachers Party-list Rep. France Castro emphasized the need to increase the entry level rate of public school teachers to Salary Grade 12.
“Though this is still far from the SG 15 demand of teachers this may at least help them in the meantime to stave off inflation as we still push for the SG 15 entry level salary of teachers,” Castro said.
Castro also pushed for the retention of the head teacher position under House Bill 1580, the proposed law creating higher level teaching positions.
“I hope that the head teachers demand that Salary Grade 12 should be the entry level for teachers as well as the retention of the head teacher positions would be carried on the substitute bill for HB 1580 and head teachers should intensify their campaign to make this happen,” Castro said.
She said that in elementary, head teachers are assigned as teacher-in-charge. In secondary, head teachers help principals in the performance of their administrative work.
