Sen. Sotto to pursue bill on adjusting school calendar even if DepEd announced to open classes on August 24
Senator Tito Sotto still wanted to pursue his bill that will grant President Duterte an authority to move the schedule of class opening even if Department of Education had already announced that opening of classes will be scheduled on August 24.
“Yes. Because my bill gives the President the power to adjust [the] school calendar unlike the previous law,” Sotto said.
Sotto said that his bill will give more time to DepEd to prepare necessary measures towards the new normal education.
This is also a response to the recommendation of Inter-Agency Task Force that opening of classes should be scheduled on September this year.
Based on the existing law, “school year shall start on the first Monday of June but not later than the last day of August.”
