DepEd reminds LGUs to avoid unnecessary cancellation of classes
The Department of Education (DepEd) urged local government units (LGUs) to avoid the unnecessary suspension of classes.
The DepEd said classes should be suspended only during public emergencies, severe weather disturbances and calamities.
“The DepEd aims to not only bring learners back to school, but also institute measures to maximize learning recovery,” the DepEd said.
Asked if the statement was a response to an LGU’s action, DepEd spokesperson Michael Poa said, “This is a general statement.”
“DepEd is against the unnecessary cancellation of classes and the use of our schools as billeting areas for events that are not related to the curriculum,” Poa added.
The DepEd wants uninterrupted class sessions for learners and helps teachers avoid unnecessary make-up classes.
DepEd said, make-up classes is an additional burden to teachers.
