DepEd considers online-based education for next school year

If the COVID-19 pandemic continues, Department of Education looks into the possibility of using an online platform as an alternative way.

“The Information and Communication Technology-based adjustments will have to be made as a major feature for teaching and learning,” DepEd Undersecretary Nepomoceno Malaluan told reporters in a virtual press conference on Monday.

But some teachers are worried about the effectiveness of this set up with the reality that not all students have access to gadgets and the internet. Not all parents can provide their children to support this online way of learning.

As for now, the Department of Education launched “DepEd Commons” which is an online platform that can be accessed by the student at home to continue the learning process.

Though they are looking into online-based education as an alternative, the Department of Education is still in preparation for the possible opening of classes in June.
