DepEd-Baguio admits funds deficit in printing learning material
More than P200 million is needed for printing of learning materials for 60,000 students in Baguio City. This has been reported by schools superintendent Marie Carolyn Verano to the City Council.
Verano said that the result of the survey they conducted showed that 100 percent of the respondents choose modular modality over online learning.
This also means that their priority now is to reproduce modules intended to the 60,000 enrolled students in the public schools in their city.
So far, DepEd-Baguio has received only P43 million funding from the central office to cover the need for reproduction of modules with costs P250 million.
Verano said the amount is only 18 percent of what they actually needed to carry out the reproduction of modules.
The DepEd official explained each page of the modules is expected to cost 50 centavos for 16 pages to complete one module good for a week with eight subjects for each learner.
Verano is also calling for the donation of gadgets to augment the needs of learners in this new normal time.
