30k starting salary for public school teachers

Pangasinan Representative Rosemarie ‘Baby’ Arenas filed a bill that aims to increase the starting salary for public school teachers to P30, 000.

House Bill 4495 pursues to alter the starting salary for public school teachers, technical vocational instructors, and higher education teaching personnel to at least P30,000 and P35,000, respectively.

Arenas emphasized that teachers have the lowest salary, unlike other professionals.

She mentioned that Police Officer 1 receives P29, 668 while Teacher 1 gets only P20,754.

Arenas added that providing teachers the right incentives will inspire them to stay in the profession of educating and honing youth to become productive citizens.

The bill also asks the Department of Education, Technical Education, and Skills Development Authority, and the Commission on Higher Education to create a reasonable performance evaluation system for teaching personnel that is observation-based.
