The reason why Pres. Duterte did not sign the “Anti – Palo Bill”

Pres. Duterte did not sign the “Anti – Palo Bill”

President Rodrigo Roa Duterte did not sign the “Anti – Palo Bill” that remove the rights of the parents to discipline their children.  The said bill authored by Sen. Risa Hontiveros.

The President used his veto power in the Senate Bill No. 1477 and House Bill No. 8239 to “An Act Promoting Positive and Nonviolent Discipline, Protecting Children from Physical, Humiliating or Degrading Acts as a Form of Punishment and Appropriating Funds Therefor.”

The President believes that the existing law is enough and no need for us to add new rules like the said “Anti – Palo Bill”

The following existing laws to protect the right of the children are Family Code of the Philippines, Republic Act 7610 o Anti – Child Abuse Act of 1992 as well as Presidential Decree 603 or the Child and Youth Welfare Code at RA 9262 or the Anti – Violence against Women and their Children Act of 2004 to give the right protection.
